Families fare best in villages with easier beach access, such as Amalfi or Maiori, using ferries rather than the winding road. Boat days with swimming stops, gelato in harbour squares and paper-making and cathedral visits keep children engaged.
This is one of the world's great honeymoon coasts: private boat trips to hidden coves, dinner above the lights of Positano and gardens in Ravello made for slow afternoons. A sea-view balcony room justifies every additional euro.
