How Browntravels handles affiliate links now and in future, and why commissions can never change our editorial opinion.

At present, outbound links on Browntravels — for example links to hotel websites — are provided for your convenience, and most earn us nothing. We are publishing this disclosure now because some of those links may become affiliate links in future, and we want the ground rules on record before that happens.
An affiliate link is an ordinary link with tracking attached: if you click through and make a booking or purchase, the hotel or booking platform pays Browntravels a small commission. The commission is paid by the merchant, not by you — you pay the same price whether you arrive via our link or type the address yourself.
Our editorial position is simple: no commission, actual or potential, changes what we write. Hotels are selected, reviewed and scored on editorial merit, exactly as described in our Editorial Policy and Review Methodology, regardless of whether an affiliate relationship exists.
We will never rank a hotel higher because it pays a commission, never omit criticism to protect a revenue stream and never add a hotel to the site simply because an affiliate programme exists for it.
Transparency is built into the platform itself. Hotels with an affiliate relationship are marked with an affiliate partnership status in our system, and that status is surfaced on the relevant pages so you can see at a glance which properties carry an affiliate link.
This sits alongside our data-status labelling and sponsored-content labels, so every commercial dimension of a page is visible rather than buried in the small print.
