Alvear Palace Hotel

Buenos Aires built itself as the Paris of the South, and the Alvear Palace, opened in 1932 on Avenida Alvear, is the conviction rendered in stone. Louis XV and Louis XVI furnishings, Empire chandeliers, acres of gilt and marble: the hotel has served for nine decades as the drawing room of Argentine society, hosting state visits, débutante balls and the tea-time rituals of Recoleta's grandes dames.
