Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A family-run lakefront landmark of 1865 on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, woven into Geneva's diplomatic and imperial history.
Beau-Rivage has stood on the Quai du Mont-Blanc since 1865, and the Mayer family who founded it still run the house five generations on—an extraordinary span for a hotel of this rank. History has repeatedly walked through its doors: Empress Elisabeth of Austria died here in 1898 after being attacked on the quay outside, and the hotel has hosted treaty negotiations and auctions that shaped the region. The atrium lobby, rising through five galleried floors, remains one of Geneva's loveliest interior spaces.
Rooms and suites layer silk, antiques and marble in a classical Geneva manner, and the best of them face Lake Geneva head-on, with the Jet d'Eau and Mont Blanc beyond on clear days. Recent refreshes have lightened the palette without disturbing the period bones. Service carries the particular warmth of a family house rather than the anonymity of a chain flagship.
Dining is anchored by Le Chat-Botté, a long-established gastronomic address for refined lake-and-market cooking, with a summer terrace facing the water. The location puts guests five minutes from the Paquis ferry jetties and a short stroll across the bridge from the old town and luxury boulevards. For travellers who want Geneva's history in the walls around them, this is the address.
Around 95 rooms and suites in classical style, the finest facing Lake Geneva with balconies over the Quai du Mont-Blanc.
Le Chat-Botté serves elegant contemporary French cuisine with a lakeside summer terrace; the atrium bar handles aperitifs and afternoon tea.
A modest fitness room and in-room treatments; the emphasis here is on history and lake views rather than spa hardware.
The Browntravels Verdict
Geneva's most storied lakefront address—choose it for atmosphere, family service and the Chat-Botté rather than resort facilities.
