Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
The APEC-era flagship at Star Mountain Plaza: international-brand consistency, a resort-sized pool and PNG's best conference floors.
Built as the centrepiece of the Star Mountain Plaza precinct ahead of Papua New Guinea's hosting of APEC in 2018, the Hilton brought the country its first truly international-brand five-star. The architecture nods to PNG tradition—the porte cochère evokes a Sepik haus tambaran—while the interiors run to polished stone, timber screens and artwork drawn from the nation's five hundred cultures.
Rooms are the most consistent in the capital: quiet, cool and carefully finished, with sweeping views over Waigani towards the coast and hills. The resort-scale outdoor pool is a weekend draw in its own right, supported by a proper gym and spa, and the executive lounge serves the hotel's diplomatic and corporate core.
Dining is unusually strong for the city, from theatrical all-day kitchens to a smart grill and lobby lounge, and the adjoining precinct adds cafés and event space; the country's largest ballroom and meeting floors make the hotel the default for summits and conferences. Guests move by hotel car or arranged transport, as everywhere in Port Moresby, but within the perimeter the Hilton delivers exactly what its flag promises—no small feat in this market.
Around 212 rooms and suites in polished contemporary style with PNG artwork, many overlooking the pool and the hills beyond Waigani.
Show-kitchen all-day dining, a smart grill, lobby lounge and executive lounge, with precinct cafés alongside.
A large outdoor pool, well-equipped gym and treatment rooms—the most complete hotel wellness offer in the capital.
The Browntravels Verdict
PNG's international standard-bearer—choose it for brand-level consistency, the pool and serious event capability.
