Vilnius, Lithuania — Europe
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A seventeenth-century baroque palace on Didžioji street reborn as the Baltics' most striking design hotel, frescoes and raw stone included.
Hotel PACAI is the conversion that put Vilnius on the design-hotel map: the seventeenth-century palace of the noble Pac family on Didžioji street, the old town's main artery, restored over years of archaeology and craftsmanship and opened in 2018. The approach was to conserve rather than prettify—original frescoes, weathered baroque mouldings and raw masonry are left exposed alongside dark contemporary furnishings, bronze and stone—so the building reads as four centuries of history in a single frame.
Rooms around the arcaded courtyard keep the same tension between old fabric and modern comfort: muted palettes, freestanding tubs, fragments of painted ceiling in the finest suites. The courtyard itself becomes one of the old town's most pleasant terraces in summer.
The kitchen is a serious draw, led by Nineteen18's tasting-menu fine dining—among Lithuania's most acclaimed tables—alongside an all-day brasserie, while a small spa with sauna and treatment rooms covers recovery. Cathedral Square, the university quarter and Užupis are all within ten minutes on foot. PACAI is that rare thing in the region: a hotel with genuine architectural gravity that is also simply a pleasure to inhabit.
104 rooms and suites around the courtyard, mixing raw historic surfaces with dark contemporary calm; top suites keep painted ceilings.
Nineteen18 leads with modern Lithuanian tasting menus; an all-day brasserie and courtyard bar handle the everyday.
A compact spa with sauna, treatment rooms and fitness space beneath the palace.
The Browntravels Verdict
The Baltic benchmark for design and dining—stay for four centuries of Vilnius in one baroque palace.
