Milan, Italy — Europe
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
Milan's neoclassical grande dame on Piazza della Repubblica since the 1920s, with a rooftop pool club surveying the city and the Alps beyond.
The Principe di Savoia has presided over Piazza della Repubblica since the 1920s, its vast neoclassical facade built to impress the industrialists, opera stars and film royalty who made it Milan's society address. Now part of the Dorchester Collection, it remains the city's most traditional statement of grand hotellerie—a deliberate counterpoint to the design-led boutiques of the fashion quarter.
Interiors run rich and unabashed: Murano chandeliers, marquetry, heavy silks and one of Italy's most theatrical presidential suites, complete with its own private pool and Pompeiian-style mosaics. Standard rooms are generously sized by Milanese measure, in either classic or lightly contemporary dress, and the hotel's scale gives it facilities smaller rivals cannot match. Service carries old-school Italian formality with genuine warmth underneath.
The glass-crowned Club 10 fitness and pool club on the roof looks across Milan toward the Alps on clear days, while Acanto restaurant and the Principe Bar anchor a lobby that still hums with aperitivo hour. The Duomo and Quadrilatero della Moda are a short taxi or metro hop, and Milano Centrale station is minutes away—convenient for the lakes as much as the catwalks.
Around 300 rooms and suites in classic Milanese opulence, crowned by the mosaic-lined Presidential Suite with its private pool and hammam.
Acanto for refined Italian cooking beside the garden courtyard, the Principe Bar for Milan's aperitivo ritual and elegant lobby lounging.
The rooftop Club 10 with indoor pool, spa treatments and a serious gym under a glass pavilion overlooking the city.
The Browntravels Verdict
Choose it for scale, tradition and that rooftop pool—Milan's old-money grande dame still delivers the full production.
