Jungle Bay Dominica

Jungle Bay is Dominica's wellness story told twice. Founder-run and community-rooted, the original resort was destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017; owners Sam and Glenda Raphael rebuilt from scratch on a new site above Soufriere Bay in the island's far southwest, and the second act—opened in 2019—is better than the first: sixty spacious eco-villas climbing a landscaped hillside, connected by garden paths, with a twin pair of infinity pools gazing across the bay where sperm whales pass offshore.

The programming is the point. Daily yoga in open-air pavilions, a spa built around island botanicals, and a menu of guided adventures—Boiling Lake treks, Waitukubuli trail sections, sea kayaking, snorkelling the volcanic vents at Champagne Reef—make this a place for travellers who measure holidays in experiences rather than loungers. Wellness packages bundle classes, treatments and excursions; the kitchen leans plant-forward and local with fresh island fish.

Comforts are genuine—air-conditioned villas with verandas, attentive staff, strong Wi-Fi—while the ethos remains proudly Dominican, employing and training from surrounding villages. It is not a beach resort: the shore below is volcanic and the sand distant. But as a base for active wellness on the Caribbean's wildest island, Jungle Bay delivers with heart and competence in equal measure.
