Pétion-Ville, Haiti — Caribbean
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
Pétion-Ville's long-standing Haitian-owned hotel in the green Juvénat hills, with gardens, a large pool and a busy conference life.
The Karibe has been one of the anchors of hospitality in the hills above Port-au-Prince for two decades. Haitian-owned and run, it sits in the leafy Juvénat area on the edge of Pétion-Ville, arranged around tropical gardens with a large swimming pool at the centre, and functions as much as a civic institution as a hotel—conferences, weddings and diaspora reunions fill its event spaces year-round.
Rooms are straightforward and comfortable, in a warm contemporary style, with suites and apartment-style options for longer stays; the better ones look over the gardens or towards the mountains that ring the capital. The restaurant serves Haitian and international dishes, and the bar terraces are a reliable gathering point for the city's professional and NGO crowd. A spa, gym and tennis court round out facilities that are genuinely broad by local standards.
Any stay in Port-au-Prince requires planning around the security situation, which has been severe in recent years—most visitors move by arranged transfers and take current advice seriously. Within those constraints, the Karibe's compound setting, generators and experienced staff make it one of the established choices for travellers with business or family reasons to be in the capital, offering a green, calm interlude above the city's intensity.
Around 100 rooms, suites and apartment-style units in warm contemporary style, the best facing the gardens or surrounding mountains.
A restaurant of Haitian and international cooking plus terrace bars that serve as a meeting point for the city's professional crowd.
A garden pool, spa treatment rooms, gym and tennis court—an unusually complete set for the capital.
The Browntravels Verdict
A dependable, green-set institution for those with reason to be in Port-au-Prince—practical comfort with Haitian character.
