Asunción, Paraguay — South America
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
Asunción's most characterful stay: a mission-inspired boutique in the Villa Morra district with Jesuit-Guaraní art and a rooftop pool.
La Misión takes its name and its aesthetic from Paraguay's Jesuit mission heritage, and it is the rare capital-city hotel with a genuine sense of place. The building rises over Avenida Mariscal López in Villa Morra, the leafy district of embassies, cafés and shopping that is modern Asunción's most agreeable quarter, and its interiors layer carved wood, religious folk art, ñandutí lace and warm colonial-revival detailing over boutique-hotel comforts.
Rooms are generous and traditionally styled, with wooden floors, balconies in many categories and quiet aspects over the garden courtyard; suites add sitting areas dressed with Paraguayan craft. The rooftop holds a small pool and terrace with views over the district's treetops—welcome in Asunción's subtropical heat—and the ground floor's restaurant is a destination in its own right, serving refined takes on Paraguayan cooking, from chipa guasu and surubí river fish to serious steaks, alongside an all-day café culture the city has embraced.
Staff handle the capital's essentials—the historic centre's palaces, the riverfront costanera, day trips to San Bernardino's lake or the Jesuit ruins further afield—with personal attention that big-box rivals cannot match. For travellers giving underrated Asunción a proper look, La Misión is the address that makes the case.
Around 30 rooms and suites in colonial-revival style with wooden floors, balconies and Paraguayan art and lacework.
A destination restaurant of refined Paraguayan dishes—surubí, chipa guasu, grilled meats—plus a popular all-day café.
A rooftop pool and terrace with massage services; wellness here is gentle rather than programmatic.
The Browntravels Verdict
Asunción's most persuasive stay—heritage, cooking and Villa Morra ease in one boutique package.
