Rosewood arrived in Vienna in 2022, converting the grand nineteenth-century former headquarters of Erste Bank on Petersplatz into its first Austrian house. The address could scarcely be better: St. Peter's Church stands directly opposite, the Graben is a few steps away, and St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Hofburg and the Kohlmarkt boutiques are all within a short stroll. Few luxury hotels sit this precisely at the city's historic heart.

The conversion favours a residential register over marble pomp. Interiors thread Viennese references—Jugendstil curves, Wiener Werkstätte-inspired detailing, contemporary Austrian art—through calm, warmly lit rooms and suites, many of which look onto the baroque dome of the Peterskirche. The Salon side of the house handles afternoon ritual with pastries and coffee culture treated seriously, as Vienna demands.

Upstairs, the rooftop bar has quickly become one of the first district's coveted perches, its terrace looking across a sea of tiled roofs to the cathedral's spire. Neue Hoheit, the brasserie, gives Austrian classics a lighter contemporary reading, and the Asaya spa brings Rosewood's wellness concept to a compact but polished space below ground. For a first-time visitor who wants imperial Vienna within arm's reach and a modern sensibility indoors, it is a persuasive package.
