Sense Hotel Sofia

Sense is Sofia's boutique wildcard: a slim glass building on Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard, directly along the axis that leads to Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with interiors that go full contemporary—white surfaces, statement lighting, and photography-led art. At around seventy rooms it stays personal, drawing a younger, design-literate crowd and the city's cocktail cognoscenti, who ride to the top floor for what is simply the best bar view in Bulgaria: the cathedral's golden domes filling the glass, close enough to count the crosses at sunset.

Rooms are compact-to-comfortable with clean lines and good beds—corner and higher categories buy more light and the cathedral angle—while the ground floor runs a capable modern-European restaurant and the basement hides a small spa with pool, sauna and steam. The location is as central as the city gets, with the National Gallery, Serdika ruins and the antiquarian quarter all within minutes on foot. Finishes are stylish rather than plush and the rooftop's popularity brings evening buzz, but for value, view and design energy, Sense punches far above its price point.
