Sommerro

Sommerro opened in 2022 inside the former headquarters of Oslo Lysverker, the city's electricity company, a functionalist Art Deco landmark of the early 1930s in the leafy Frogner quarter. The restoration is among Scandinavia's most ambitious hotel projects: original murals, brass fittings and terrazzo were painstakingly revived, and London studio GrecoDeco layered in a warm, richly patterned interior world that feels both period and freshly imagined.

The building's civic history gives the hotel its most distinctive asset. Vestkantbadet, the Art Deco public baths in the basement complete with their famous mosaic-lined pool, were restored and reopened as part of the project, continuing a neighbourhood bathing tradition alongside a full modern spa. On the roof, a heated pool, sauna and terrace operate year-round with views over Frogner's rooftops—swimming under falling snow is a signature Oslo memory here.

Dining spreads across several venues, from a grand brasserie in the old banking hall to a rooftop Japanese-Nordic restaurant and a summer courtyard. Rooms range from snug cabins to expansive suites, all carrying the house's saturated colours and bespoke furniture. A short tram ride from the centre and steps from Frogner Park's Vigeland sculptures, Sommerro has quickly become the most complete expression of new Norwegian hospitality.
