Panama City, Panama — North America
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
Panama City's discreet grande dame in the banking district, prized for butler service and refined Panamanian dining at Salsipuedes.
The Bristol has spent two decades as Panama City's quiet counterpoint to the glass towers around it: a boutique-scaled hotel on Calle Aquilino de la Guardia in the heart of the banking district, where the emphasis falls on service depth rather than skyline theatrics. Butlers attend every room, the front desk operates on a first-name basis with its repeat financial and diplomatic clientele, and the atmosphere—mahogany, Panamanian art, fresh orchids—suggests a private club more than a commercial hotel.
Rooms and suites are generous and classically dressed, with marble bathrooms and deep beds; the mola-inspired accents nod to Guna craft traditions. The hotel's culinary reputation rests on Salsipuedes, the restaurant developed with acclaimed Panamanian chef José Olmedo Carles, which reworks street and coastal traditions—corvina, plantain, culantro—into one of the capital's most interesting fine-dining rooms.
There is no resort apparatus—a small wellness area and gym stand in for pools and grounds—so the Bristol suits travellers whose days are spent in meetings, Casco Antiguo's lanes or the canal's visitor centres, and whose evenings deserve a serious table and a quiet floor. Within its niche it remains the city's most polished performer.
Around 116 rooms and suites in mahogany and marble with mola-inspired Panamanian accents and butler service throughout.
Salsipuedes leads with contemporary Panamanian cuisine, supported by a clubby bar and afternoon-tea lobby.
A compact spa and fitness centre cover the essentials.
The Browntravels Verdict
Panama City's service benchmark—choose it for butlers, Salsipuedes and calm amid the towers.
