The Dorchester

The Dorchester opened on Park Lane in 1931 as one of the most technically advanced hotels of its era, its reinforced-concrete frame dressed in a curved facade that has looked across to Hyde Park ever since. It quickly became a fixture of London society—wartime statesmen, film stars and royalty all passed through—and the hotel has spent the decades since curating rather than chasing that glamour. The Promenade, running like a gilded spine through the ground floor, remains one of the great people-watching corridors in the capital.
