The Marmorosch Bucharest, Autograph Collection

The Marmorosch Blank Bank was interwar Romania's financial cathedral, and its 2021 conversion into an Autograph Collection hotel returned one of Bucharest's most extravagant interiors to public life. The building anchors the old town's northern edge on Strada Doamnei, and restoration revived its gilded coffered ceilings, stained glass and marble halls with a designer's flourish: the former banking floor is now a soaring restaurant, and the vault below—original steel doors intact—serves cocktails as The Vault bar, one of the city's most atmospheric rooms.

Guest rooms take a plush Art Deco-inflected line, in deep blues, brass and velvet, with quiet engineering that belies the old-town location; suites under the mansards add freestanding tubs and rooftop views. The Blank restaurant plates modern Romanian cooking that has quickly entered the city's conversation, breakfast in the gilded hall is an event, and a small spa with pool, sauna and hammam hides in the basement alongside the vaults. Lipscani's bars and the Stavropoleos Monastery are minutes on foot; Calea Victoriei begins around the corner. For romance and theatre per leu, nothing in Bucharest currently touches it.
