The Siam

The Siam is what happens when a family of collectors builds a hotel around its obsessions. Set on three riverside acres in the old royal district of Dusit, Bill Bensley's black-and-white Art Deco frame houses thousands of genuine antiques—Ratanakosin artefacts, vintage photography, colonial curiosities—arranged with wit through courtyards, a glass-roofed atrium garden and a riverside teak mansion relocated plank by plank.

With only 39 keys, all suites or pool villas, the property operates at a hushed, personal register: butlers for every room, a private boat to the river piers, and staff who treat the house's stories as part of the welcome. Interiors mix four-posters and free-standing tubs with monochrome tile and one-of-a-kind objects, so no two suites repeat.

Days orbit the riverfront infinity pool, the old-Siam cooking school in the teak house, and a spa with a serious Thai-medicine pedigree; there is even a resident Muay Thai ring and a vintage-styled barber. Dusit's palaces and temples sit close by, with the chaos of downtown kept at arm's length. Unique is an overused word; here it is simply accurate.
