Florence, Italy — Europe
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A frescoed Renaissance palazzo on the Arno where butler service and river-view suites channel Florence's golden age.
Set in a palazzo whose origins trace to a Brunelleschi-era commission, The St. Regis Florence faces the Arno at Piazza Ognissanti with the kind of pedigree most hotels can only imitate. Interiors lean fully into the Renaissance inheritance: frescoed ceilings, Murano chandeliers, silk damask and marble in profusion. It is unapologetically ornate, and in Florence—of all cities—that maximalism feels right.
Rooms come in Renaissance, Medici and florid signature styles, many with hand-painted headboard frescoes; the ones to fight for face the river, where sunset turns the Arno gold and the Ponte Vecchio glows a few hundred metres upstream. St. Regis butler service—unpacking, pressing, small errands—adds a layer of old-world ceremony that suits the setting, and families are handled more warmly than the gilt might suggest.
The winter-garden restaurant under a stained-glass ceiling delivers refined Tuscan cooking and one of the city's more theatrical aperitivo settings. There is no pool, and wellness is modest, but with the Duomo, Uffizi and Santa Maria Novella all within a ten-minute walk, days here belong to the city anyway. A grand, romantic Florentine base.
80 rooms and 19 suites layered with damask, frescoes and Murano glass; river-view categories overlooking the Arno are the essential choice.
A winter-garden restaurant beneath a stained-glass ceiling serving refined Tuscan menus, with a bar known for its theatrical evening ritual.
An intimate treatment suite and fitness room; the hotel leans on its riverside location for morning runs along the Arno.
The Browntravels Verdict
For full-dress Renaissance romance on the river, this is Florence's most transporting address—city sights all within a stroll.
