Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A Grand Canal address beside St Mark's where five historic palazzi meet crisp contemporary interiors and rare private gardens on the water.
The St. Regis Venice occupies a string of five palazzi on the Grand Canal, a two-minute walk from Piazza San Marco, on the site of the nineteenth-century Grand Hotel Britannia where painters including Monet once took rooms facing Santa Maria della Salute. Its 2019 reinvention took a different path from Venice's brocade-and-chandelier tradition: interiors are light, contemporary and gallery-like, with commissioned artworks riffing on Venetian glass, water and light.
Rooms are calm and unfussy, letting the views do the talking—many terraces and balconies hang directly over the Grand Canal with the Salute dome opposite, an outlook usually reserved for far pricier suites elsewhere in the city. Two small private gardens on the canal, a genuine rarity, host breakfast and evening drinks in season. Butler service, the brand signature, extends across all room categories.
The Gio's restaurant and terrace handles Venetian and Mediterranean cooking, while the St. Regis Bar reworks the Bloody Mary ritual with a local twist. This is the sensible choice among Venice's canal-front five-stars for travellers who want the location and the views without committing to full grande-dame formality or Cipriani-level rates.
Around 169 rooms and suites in light contemporary style; the best open onto balconies and terraces directly above the Grand Canal.
Gio's restaurant and canal-side terrace for Venetian and Mediterranean plates, with an inventive cocktail programme at the St. Regis Bar.
A compact fitness suite and in-room spa treatments rather than a full spa.
The Browntravels Verdict
The freshest of Venice's Grand Canal hotels—pick it for views, gardens and modern comfort over historical theatre.
