Macau, Macau — Asia
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
The largest casino resort on earth — Macau's all-suite Venetian recreation whose gaming floor, canal-laced shopping city and 15,000-seat arena redefined the scale of integrated resorts.
Numbers only begin to describe The Venetian Macao: the world's largest casino floor, one of the largest buildings on the planet by area, 3,000 suites, an indoor Grand Canal complete with singing gondoliers under a painted Venetian sky. When it opened on the Cotai Strip in 2007 it didn't join Macau's casino scene — it invented Cotai, and with it the template of the Asian mega integrated resort.
Every room is a genuine suite of at least 70 square metres, with sunken living rooms and marble bathrooms that embarrass many pricier hotels. Above the gaming floor's four themed sections, the Grande Praça and three indoor canals thread through 350 shops, while the CotaiArena stages the region's biggest concerts and title fights and a food universe runs from Cantonese fine dining at Canton to hawker-style comfort in two food courts.
It is unashamedly maximal — a place to marvel at rather than hide away in. As a monument to what a casino hotel can be at maximum scale, nothing else on earth compares.
Around 3,000 suites — Royale, Bella and Rialto categories upward — each with sunken living area, king bedroom and marble bath, many overlooking the Cotai Strip.
More than 30 restaurants from Michelin-recognised Canton and Portofino to the North's Sichuan fire, plus two vast food courts along the canals.
V Spa, a full fitness centre, the Cotai Strip's largest pool deck and, for a different recovery, gondola drift under the painted sky.
The Browntravels Verdict
The definitive casino mega-resort — Macau's canal-laced colossus that created the Cotai Strip.
