Crown Point, Trinidad and Tobago — Caribbean
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
Tobago's long-standing upscale classic at Crown Point, with a sheltered private lagoon beach and pink colonial-style architecture.
Coco Reef has been Tobago's flagship since the 1990s, and its formula suits the island's unhurried temper. Built in pink-washed colonial style around ten acres of gardens at Crown Point, the resort's defining feature is its private lagoon: a man-made breakwater encloses a calm, sandy-bottomed pool of sea in front of the hotel, giving guests protected swimming whatever the ocean is doing, with famous Store Bay and Pigeon Point's postcard jetty both a short stroll along the coast.
Rooms and suites carry a traditional tropical style—rattan, florals, terraces angled to the sea breeze—and the atmosphere is old-fashioned in the warmest sense: afternoon tea, live steel pan in the evenings, staff who have worked the property for decades. The spa, tucked into the gardens, and a sea-view pool terrace fill lazy days.
Dining at Tamara's brings white-tablecloth evenings of Caribbean-continental cooking, with beachfront lunches more casual, and Crown Point's restaurants and bars are walkable when variety calls. The airport's proximity is convenient, though occasional aircraft noise comes with it. Tobago's real treasures—the rainforest reserve, Buccoo Reef, Sunday School's street party—are all within easy reach, and Coco Reef remains the most comfortable base from which to enjoy them.
Around 135 rooms, suites and villas in pink colonial style with rattan, florals and breeze-catching terraces towards the lagoon.
Tamara's for Caribbean-continental dinners, beachfront and poolside lunches, and cocktail evenings with live steel pan.
A garden spa, sea-view pool and the lagoon's gentle swimming; Buccoo Reef trips arrange easily.
The Browntravels Verdict
Tobago's dependable classic—lagoon calm, warm service and the island's best location for beaches and bays.
