Agios Nikolaos, Greece — Europe
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A contemporary amphitheatre of stone and glass terraced into a private cove near Agios Nikolaos, with a sandy beach at its heart.
Daios Cove takes a single horseshoe bay east of Agios Nikolaos and builds the entire resort into its slopes: tiers of local stone and glass descending to a private sandy beach, connected by a funicular that shuttles guests between reception at the top and the sea at the bottom. The architecture works with the contours rather than against them, and from the water the resort reads as part of the cliff.
The contemporary design carries through the rooms—clean lines, glass walls towards the Aegean, and a high proportion of private pools even in mid-tier categories, with villas adding serious space for families and groups. The Mansion, the resort's largest villa, operates almost as a standalone estate. Sea views are effectively universal thanks to the amphitheatre plan.
Dining moves between Greek, Italian and Asian-influenced kitchens with an executive-chef pedigree, and the large wellness centre brings a gym, indoor pool and treatment suites to the clifftop. A well-run kids' club makes the resort more family-capable than its sleek looks suggest. The bay itself—swimmable, sheltered, gin-clear—remains the best argument of all.
Around 300 rooms, suites and villas terraced into the cove in stone and glass, most with sea views and many with private pools; villas add family-scale space.
Greek, Italian and Asian-accented restaurants plus beach and pool bars, spread between clifftop terraces and the water's edge.
A large spa with indoor pool, thermal facilities and Aegean-facing treatment rooms, plus a gym and fitness programming.
The Browntravels Verdict
Modern Crete at its most complete—a private-cove resort balancing sleek design with genuine family utility.
