Bressanone, Italy — Europe
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A minimalist high-altitude retreat at 1,800 metres on the Plose, built around forest, spring water and silence with full-frontal Dolomites views.
Forestis grew from an unlikely seed: an early twentieth-century sanatorium site on the Plose mountainside above Bressanone, chosen originally for its pure spring water, mild microclimate and southern light. The modern hotel honours exactly those virtues. Three restrained timber-and-glass towers rise beside the historic building at 1,800 metres, every room aimed squarely at the jagged UNESCO-listed panorama of the Odle and the wider Dolomites across the valley.
Interiors are pared to essentials—pale local timber, undyed textiles, stone—with floor-to-ceiling glazing that makes the mountains the art. The wellness philosophy draws on the surrounding forest: treatments and rituals are built around the four local tree species, the Wyda movement practice rooted in Celtic alpine tradition, and that celebrated Plose spring water flowing from the taps. The spa's indoor-outdoor pool and sauna decks hang above the treeline.
Dining is a nature-led tasting of alpine and forest ingredients, refined without ceremony. Winter brings ski-in access to the Plose slopes; summer, hiking trails from the door. The mood is adult, hushed and intentional—closer to a mountain sanctuary than a lively alpine resort—and for design-minded travellers seeking altitude and stillness, few European hotels compete.
Around 62 suites in pale timber with floor-to-ceiling glazing and balconies aimed at the Odle peaks; tower suites add private saunas.
A nature-driven restaurant serving forest-and-alpine tasting menus, with a bar focused on regional wines and herbal infusions.
A forest-philosophy spa with indoor-outdoor pool, sauna decks, tree-based rituals and the Wyda alpine movement practice.
The Browntravels Verdict
The Dolomites' most serene design retreat—choose it for silence, views and spa depth rather than après-ski energy.
