Giraffe Manor

Giraffe Manor is that rarest of things: a hotel whose defining image—a giraffe craning its head through a breakfast-room window—is exactly as magical in person as in photographs. The ivy-covered manor was built in the 1930s in the style of a Scottish hunting lodge, and since the 1970s its grounds have sheltered a herd of endangered Rothschild's giraffes, whose morning and evening visits to the terrace windows structure each day here.

Run by The Safari Collection, the manor keeps its stately-home character: log fires, four-poster beds, deep baths and art deco details across a small number of individually decorated rooms, several named for giraffes past and present. Stays operate on a warm house-party model with meals included, and the staff's choreography of giraffe encounters—warthogs snuffling below—never feels like a show.

Demand vastly exceeds the room count, so bookings open far ahead and typically pair with an onward safari; the adjacent Giraffe Centre, run by the conservation charity the herd supports, deepens the visit. One night suffices for the experience, two allows it to sink in. As an overture or finale to a Kenyan safari, nothing else comes close.
