La Réserve de Beaulieu

La Réserve de Beaulieu has stood on its balustraded terrace above the Mediterranean since 1880, a confection of Florentine-style arches and warm pink stone between the old port of Beaulieu and the Cap Ferrat headland. Its origins lie in a celebrated seafood restaurant that kept live fish in seawater tanks—the réserve of the name—and eating splendidly by the water remains the house's founding idea.

Unlike the coast's palace giants, the hotel keeps to an intimate scale of around 37 rooms and suites, decorated in a romantic classical style with Mediterranean light pouring through tall windows; the best open onto sea-facing balconies with Cap Ferrat across the bay. A heated seawater pool is set into the waterfront terrace, and a small private harbour recalls an era when guests arrived by boat.

The Restaurant des Rois brings Michelin-recognised grand French cooking to one of the most beautiful dining rooms on the Riviera, all chandeliers and open sea beyond the glass, while a spa with a respected French skincare partner covers the wellness side. Beaulieu itself stays pleasingly low-key, which is precisely the point.
