Courchevel, France — Europe
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A fairytale Austro-Hungarian palace in the Jardin Alpin, famed for lavish family programming and some of the most theatrical service in the Alps.
Les Airelles looks like something from a Habsburg winter dream: turrets, painted façades and carved balconies rising out of the snow in Courchevel 1850's Jardin Alpin. Since the 1990s it has defined the maximalist school of alpine luxury—staff in period-style uniforms, horse-drawn carriage arrivals, a level of choreography that treats each stay as a production—and it carries official French palace status.
Families are taken more seriously here than almost anywhere in the mountains: a vast children's kingdom with its own programming, costumed characters and dedicated dining means parents ski while children genuinely refuse to leave. Ski-in, ski-out access to the Trois Vallées and a ski room run like a couture atelier handle the sport itself.
Dining moves between grand gastronomic collaborations and generous alpine tables, with the season's late lunches on the snow-facing terrace a fixture of 1850 life. The spa, with its pool, snow room and family treatments, is appropriately extravagant. Les Airelles is unapologetic theatre—but the warmth beneath the costume is real, and for festive-season families it has no equal.
Around 50 rooms, suites and a private apartment in carved-wood Austro-Hungarian style, many with balconies over the Jardin Alpin pistes.
Grand gastronomic dining alongside hearty alpine tables and a legendary terrace for long lunches above the snow.
A lavish spa with indoor pool, snow room, hammam and treatments for adults and children alike.
The Browntravels Verdict
Alpine fantasy at full volume—the definitive festive family palace of Courchevel 1850.
