Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
The birthplace of vinothérapie, a wine-country retreat amid the vines of Château Smith Haut Lafitte with a two-Michelin-starred restaurant.
Les Sources de Caudalie grew directly out of the vineyard that surrounds it. When a natural hot spring was found beneath the vines of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, the Cathiard family's daughter Mathilde and her husband built a spa around it in the late 1990s, pioneering vinothérapie—treatments based on grape and vine extracts—and founding the Caudalie skincare brand that carried the idea worldwide.
The hotel itself is a village of timbered and stone buildings linked by boardwalks over the vines, furnished with flea-market finds and wine-country ease rather than urban gloss. Rooms and suites look over the Graves vineyards, and bicycles stand ready for rides through the rows to the château's cellars for tastings.
Gastronomy matches the wellness pedigree: La Grand'Vigne, in an elegant orangery-style dining room, holds two Michelin stars for produce-led cooking, with a rustic second table for hearty regional lunches. The spa remains the region's benchmark, drawing on its spring water and vine-based therapies. Twenty minutes from Bordeaux's centre, it is the complete wine-country immersion.
Around 60 rooms and suites across village-style buildings over the vines, mixing timber, stone and antique finds.
Two-starred La Grand'Vigne for refined produce-led menus, plus a convivial rustic table and a deep cellar of Bordeaux vintages.
The pioneering vinothérapie spa with hot-spring water, grape-based treatments, indoor and outdoor pools and vineyard views.
The Browntravels Verdict
The definitive Bordeaux wine-country stay—spa innovation, two-star cooking and vines in every direction.
