Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A Victorian baronial manor on 100 acres between Lough Conn and the River Moy, Mayo's home of falconry and salmon fishing.
Mount Falcon was built in the 1870s as a gentleman's sporting estate, and a century and a half later that remains its honest identity. The grey-stone baronial manor sits in 100 acres of woodland and lawns in north Mayo, between the salmon-rich River Moy—among Europe's most productive salmon rivers—and the trout waters of Lough Conn, with the flat-topped profile of Nephin mountain on the horizon.
The manor's dozen original rooms carry the period character—high ceilings, heavy drapes, estate views—while lodges through the woods accommodate families and fishing parties at ease. The kitchen garden and estate produce feed the Kitchen Restaurant, set in the old manor kitchens with their original ranges, where the cooking is generous, seasonal and quietly proud of its Mayo suppliers.
The estate experience is the point: a resident falconry school flies hawks and owls over the lawns, fishing guides run guests to the Moy's beats and the lough, and clay shooting, woodland walks and a small pool and spa fill soft days. The links of Enniscrone and Carne are within striking distance for golfers. Mount Falcon offers a warmer, more affordable take on the Irish estate stay—sporting, family-friendly and unpretentious to its boots.
Around 32 rooms in the Victorian manor with estate views, plus self-catering lodges scattered through the 100-acre woodland.
The Kitchen Restaurant serves hearty seasonal Irish cooking from the manor's original kitchens, backed by the walled garden's produce.
A small leisure area with pool, hot tub and treatment rooms; the real restoration is outdoors with the hawks and rivers.
The Browntravels Verdict
Mayo's most engaging estate stay—falconry, salmon and family warmth over formality.
