Kenmare, Ireland — Europe
Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A Victorian railway hotel above Kenmare Bay, famed for the Brennan brothers' hospitality and the destination Sámas spa.
Opened in 1897 to serve the Great Southern railway, the Park Hotel Kenmare stands in terraced gardens above the tidal reaches of Kenmare Bay, where the Ring of Kerry and the Beara Peninsula begin. For decades it has been synonymous with the Brennan brothers, Francis and John Patrick, whose broadcasting fame rests on the same meticulous, warm-hearted hotel-keeping practised daily in these halls; the property now continues that tradition within a small international luxury collection.
The house itself is a Victorian charmer of antiques, paintings and bay-window lounges where afternoon tea arrives with views down the water. Bedrooms favour classic comfort—many with four-posters and sea outlooks—over contemporary gesture, and the dining room's Irish cooking, strong on Kerry lamb and Atlantic seafood, is matched by an old-school courtesy of service increasingly rare anywhere.
Sámas, the hotel's adults-only destination spa in the trees, brought serious wellness to Kerry with its thermal suite, rock-lit relaxation spaces and long treatment menu. Kenmare's colourful triangle of streets—among Ireland's best small food towns—is a two-minute stroll, and the Gap of Dunloe, Killarney's lakes and the Skellig coast fill day trips for a week. The Park is reason enough to route any Irish itinerary through Kenmare.
46 rooms and suites in classic Victorian style, many with four-poster beds and views over the gardens to Kenmare Bay.
The bay-view dining room serves refined Irish cooking led by Kerry lamb and Atlantic seafood, with afternoon tea in the lounges.
The adults-only Sámas spa offers thermal suites, a deep treatment menu and forest-framed relaxation decks.
The Browntravels Verdict
Ireland's most beloved country hotel—bay views, the Sámas spa and hospitality with a legend behind it.
