Editorial research. Profiled through in-depth editorial research; Browntravels has not yet stayed at this property. How we review
A castle-like 1912 grand hotel in its own quiet valley outside St. Moritz, with a private ski lift onto the Corviglia slopes.
Suvretta House sits deliberately apart from St. Moritz, occupying its own sheltered fold of the Suvretta plateau a few minutes from the village. Built in 1912 in the manner of a fairytale castle, its towers and gables rise against larch forest with clear views to Piz Nair and the frozen lakes below. That remove is the point: guests come here for the calm of a self-contained world rather than the promenade bustle of Badrutt's mile.
The hotel's trump card in winter is its own ski lift rising directly from the doorstep into the Corviglia ski area, so guests click in and glide off without touching a road. A dedicated ski school and generous children's facilities, including a famous playroom and junior programming, have made it the discreet choice of multigenerational families for decades. Jacket-and-tie evenings in the grand restaurant preserve a formality that regulars cherish.
Summer brings hiking and golf, and the large indoor pool with its arched windows onto the mountains is a pleasure in any season, supported by an extensive spa. The cooking runs from the classical grand-hotel dining room to the cosy Suvretta Stube. This is Engadine hotel-keeping of the old school, run with modern polish and a strong sense of its own traditions.
Around 180 rooms and suites in Alpine-classical style, many with balconies facing the Engadine lakes and peaks.
A formal grand restaurant with evening dress code, the wood-panelled Suvretta Stube for Swiss classics, and slope-side lunching in winter.
A large spa with a 25-metre-class indoor pool beneath arched mountain-view windows, saunas, and family swim times.
The Browntravels Verdict
The Engadine's great family castle—ski-in convenience, old-world ritual and space to breathe away from the village scene.
